Fishing Info: Costilla Creek begins just below the Colorado border and journeys south to Costilla Reservoir through Vermejo Ranch and then west into Carson National Forest. The Costilla is restricted on flies and lures only and has a two bag limit. In the Valle Vidal section a Wildlife Habitat Improvement Stamp in required.($10.00 as of this writing) Because of fluctuating flows from the reservoir, fishing during weekdays can be hit and miss. The Costilla can be fished year round (in hip waders), but fishing June - October seeming to be the most productive period. The Costilla is about 40 miles north of Taos, however the lodging and camping may be more convenient in the town of San Luis, Colorado.
